Following the first distributions on January 18, Tzu Chi volunteers in Los Angeles took on several tasks to prepare for what would be an extensive disaster relief mission…

On January 16, Tzu Chi announced that the $1 million donation match had been increased to $2 million, thanks to the continued generosity of the same anonymous benefactor. This remarkable gesture encouraged even greater public participation in the mission, which would officially begin with disaster relief distributions on January 18.

As part of a coordinated effort to support recovery in the aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), Los Angeles County, and the City of Los Angeles jointly opened Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) on January 14 at three locations: UCLA Research Park West, the Pasadena City College Community Education Center, and Altadena.

On January 11, Tzu Chi USA held an interfaith prayer service at its San Gabriel Valley Service Center.

Starting from January 8, Tzu Chi volunteers began going to different shelters to care for evacuated residents, provide spiritual comfort, understand their needs, and accompany them until the evacuation ends…
